ESD
Workplaces that need to be protected from electrostatic discharges are called Electrostatic Protected Area or ESD workplaces. Thanks to anti-static equipment, e.g. anti-static work clothing and ESD safety shoes, electrostatic charging usually caused by friction is prevented in these areas. In line with the current ESD norms, the maximum electrostatic charges are stated for ESD protected areas. This serves to protect against electrostatic discharges that could damage or destroy sensitive electronic parts. Work and protection shoes with ESD features must satisfy the requirements of the DIN EN 61340 standard with a bleeder resistance of between > 0.1 mega ohms (1.0 x 105 Ohm) and < 100 mega ohms (1.0x 108 Ohm). EN 1149-5:2008 in conjunction with EN 1149-3:2004 governs the properties of protective clothing with electrostatic properties.
